Singing and Ear training

Example: The round „No matter where you are“ by U. Kany

Ear training tasks can be prepared by all kinds of exercises:

  1. First the students learn the song without the sheet of music.
  2.  They trace the notes with a finger or pencil on the sheet silently while the teacher is singing or sing themselves while tracing.
  3. They follow along how the teacher or a student traces the notes via overhead projector or visualizer.
  4. They play the round on instruments
  5. They mark phrases in the song in order to recognize the sequence.
  6. They circle „mistakes“ in the song that they teacher played on purpose
  7. They point to the note where the teacher stopped playing.
  8. They fill in the missing notes into the gaps on the music sheet with the incomplete melody. They may use an instrument or their own voice to help them solving the task. It is easier to concentrate only on the pitches or the rhythm first.
  9. It is also possible to ask the students to write down only the rhythm or the melody and have the pitches or the rhythm fixed on the sheet.
